A student-led IEP is a way for students to take an active role in their own Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings. With help from adults, students share their strengths, challenges, goals, and ideas. They can start joining IEP meetings in early grades and must be invited by age 14. Being part of the meeting helps students build confidence, learn how to speak up for themselves, and take more responsibility for their education. This flyer explains how student-led IEPs can help both now and in the future—at school and in life.
If you have questions or want more information in how to support your child in leading their IEP meeting, the Family Engagement in Special Education team is here to help. Reach out to us today!
